The Opening Day of the Academic Year at the ELGS in Cascais
The Opening Day of the Academic Year at the European Law and Governance School (ELGS) in Cascais took place successfully, marking the official start of the academic journey for the new cohort of master’s students.
The event brought together students from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm, curiosity, and collaboration.
Introductions and Icebreakers:
The day began with a warm welcome session that included introductions and interactive ice-breaking activities. Students had the opportunity to present themselves, share their academic interests, and express their expectations for the program. This engaging start fostered a sense of community and mutual understanding among the group, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.
General Introduction to the ELGS Master Programs in Cascais:
Following the introductions, the students attended a general orientation session led by Edilson,Veronika and Esra, they provided a comprehensive overview of the ELGS Master Programs in Cascais. The presentation covered the structure and objectives of the programs, as well as practical aspects such as the use of the E-Meeting Platform, and guidance on the selection of elective courses.
During this session, special attention was given to time management and due diligence, emphasizing the importance of academic discipline and personal organization. Students also received valuable insights on cultural adaptation, helping them navigate the experience of studying and living in Cascais.
Extra-Curricular Engagement:
The focus shifted to the extra-curricular opportunities available to students. The team introduced several initiatives designed to complement academic learning and promote community engagement, including:
- Portuguese language classes (optional), offering students the chance to better integrate into the local culture.
- Participation in the Bazar Diplomático, a traditional event that reflects the spirit of cultural exchange and social responsibility encouraged by the ELGS.
- Other social and cultural activities planned throughout the term, aimed at strengthening connections among students and between the school and the broader community.
Preparation for the Lisbon Forum Conference:
The final part of the day was dedicated to preparing students for their participation in the Lisbon Forum Conference for this week. The session introduced the main themes of the Forum and the format of student participation. Students were also guided on preparing their one-minute pitch, an exercise designed to help them succinctly present their ideas and engage effectively in high-level discussions.
