LUISS-ELGS Summer Program on “Parliamentary Democracy in Europe”

  • Date 22 July, 2024

July 18th, 2024 – EPLO Rome Office Palazzo Altemps

As part of its educational activities and programs, EPLO through its the European Law and Governance School (ELGS) supported and co-hosted the Summer Program on ‘Parliamentary Democracy in Europe’ in cooperation with the Luiss Guido Carli School of Government.
The one week-long summer program took place from 15 to 19 July 2024 in Rome and included a full day at the EPLO Rome premises at the incredible Palazzo Altemps. The Dean of ELGS Prof. Luis Maria Diez-Picazo, gave an opening lecture on ‘A marriage of convenience: democracy and the rule of law’ at the presence of Prof. Nicola Lupo (Coordinator of the Luiss School of Government Courses, Professor of Public Law and Director of CESP, Centre for Parliamentary Studies) on Monday July 15th at the Luiss campus in Rome.

10 ELGS students had the chance to attend the school at full scholarship. A wonderful experience provided by Luiss Guido Carli, the European Law and Governance School and the EPLO – European Public Law Organization.

The entire day on Thursday 18 July was then held at the Rome EPLO Office and ELGS headquarters, at Museo Nazionale Romano – Palazzo Altemps. The morning lecture sessions were held in the extraordinary setting of the Theatre of Palazzo Altemps.

The first lecture by Prof. Maurizia De Bellis (Tor Vergata University) on ‘The role of the European Commission in the implementation of National Recovery and Resilience Plans’.

The second lecture was then delivered by Professor Bernardo Giorgio Mattarella (Luiss University, Director of EPLO Rome Office) on ‘The RRF as an instrument of the ecological transition’. During the afternoon, the students together with Luiss and EPLO/ELGS tutors took part in a guided tour of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Italian Republic.
