“Regulating AI in the EU: From the AI Act’s ‘Green Silences’ to Trustworthy Governance”
As part of the new ELGS LLM in AI, Ethics, Regulation and Innovation

On 3 June 2026, the European Law & Governance School (ELGS) successfully hosted its inaugural free online course entitled “Regulating AI in the EU: From the AI Act’s ‘Green Silences’ to Trustworthy Governance”, organized on the occasion of the official launch of the new ELGS LLM in AI, Ethics, Regulation and Innovation.

The webinar was moderated by Associate Professor Dora Papadopoulou, who introduced the programme and its broader institutional framework within the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) and ELGS. The event brought together three leading experts whose presentations addressed key dimensions of AI governance in Europe.

Professor Susana de la Sierra opened the discussion with an analysis of the use of AI by public bodies, examining both its transformative potential for public administration and the governance, accountability and oversight mechanisms required to ensure its lawful and responsible deployment. Dr Mihalis Kritikos then explored the development of trustworthy and ethical AI governance within the European Union, emphasizing the role of ethical considerations in shaping the European approach to AI regulation, research governance and policy-making. The webinar concluded with a presentation by Dr Enrico Buono, who examined the “green silences” of the EU AI Act, drawing attention to the relationship between AI and sustainability and the legal challenges posed by computational sustainability.

The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which participants demonstrated a high level of academic and professional engagement with the issues addressed — as well as strong interest in the newly established LLM programme.

ELGS will continue to offer free educational events as part of its commitment to advancing public debate on law, governance and emerging global challenges.
